Three Years Daily Tiffin

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Posted by Meeta K. Wolff

6thB-dayCake01 framed It's hard to believe but yes The Daily Tiffin is turning three. Personally it's a grand milestone for me as I have watched this blog grow from a one woman show to an incredible group grandstand.

I was so proud of my first post, not only because it was the first post but my first step into the blogging world. Since then many things have changed here.

The Daily Tiffin has flourished into an informative, fun and exciting team blog. The awesome team that helps me put together posts for a healthy and better family life are all driven by one thing - passion.

A passion to share their knowledge on how you can live a better life. We are not experts but we are parents, thinkers, inquirers, go-getters and communicators and we love what we do. This is portrayed in each post and we hope you enjoy your stay here.

I thank our readers some who have been around from the beginning. We know you are out there and we hope you are enjoying what we offer. I also thank my team - for just being the best darned group of people I know. I love your support and appreciate your energy.

Come help me blow these candles will ya!

We've got the look!

If you've just dropped by and are wondering if this is the right blog - let us reassure you: Yes this is the Daily Tiffin in all it's newest glory.

What do you think?

For the past several weeks we have been changing, moving, organizing, de-cluttering and re-structuring many things behind the scenes. We've created a "back office" team who is responsible for various tasks like new design, organizational issues, events and marketing to name a few. It sure is a lot of work managing a team blog and I would like to thank everyone on the team for all the effort they have put into keeping The Daily Tiffin going.

One person in particular has spent an enormous amount of time and effort. Suganya was the driving force behind this wonderful new layout. The rest of us pitched in with ideas and suggestions, but it was Suganya who spent hours tweaking the template and designing this gorgeous layout.
Suganya, on behalf of the entire Daily Tiffin Team, I would like to thank you for all your efforts.

Suganya is off on a well deserved vacation now and the rest of the back office team will be tweaking a few things here. So, if you find things wonky or out of place please excuse us and do drop us an email or leave us a comment if you are viewing something that does not look right.

In the meantime, it's business as usual and we'll be posting great articles you enjoy reading.

Take care!

Dining & Dishing on the Daily Tiffin

Posted by Meeta K. Wolff

The more the merrier - goes that fantastic saying. Here at the Daily Tiffin it really is the case. The people behind all these wonderful posts are totally incredible and behind the scenes we do have a little giggle every now and then.

They are also always around to bring the other one back up when one is feeling down and I'll tell you I would not pick a better set of people to represent the Daily Tiffin.

So, when the team grows, we take in our new colleague with a huge hug and a warm welcome. Today I would like to introduce the newest member - Kristen Doyle. Many of her know her from her great blog Dine and Dish and also from The Well Fed Network where she writes a column regularly. So, it is no surprise when I tell you that having Kristen join us here at the DT is a great honor.

Kristen will be posting a little later today but in the meantime take a minute to get to know her.

Kristen Doyle works from home as a freelance writer and a professional recruiter. The mom of three kids (ages 2, 4 and 6), the wife of a wonderful man who actually cleans up the kitchen after she cooks, and a June Cleaver wanna be, Kristen discovered her fervor for cooking shortly after she began staying home with her children. With a passion for writing, a flare for entertaining, and a crazy busy schedule, Kristen understands the importance of family meal time, but also recognizes the need for meals to be quick, easy and healthy. Kristen shares, "It is my goal to help those people who are too intimidated to start cooking or baking to actually get into the kitchen to take that first step. All it takes is a little bit of encouragement and some practice, and before you know it homemade meals will be a regular thing at your household. Trust me... if I can do it, and I started out thinking Hamburger Helper was considered homemade, you can do it!"
Kristen's culinary writing work can be found in various places, but regularly on her blog Dine and Dish, Her Life Magazine, The Well Fed Network, Blogged In and now The Daily Tiffin.

Welcome to the team Kristen!

Adding another dimension to the fun

Posted by Indian Food Rocks

Yes! The fun quotient has just been upped some more with the addition of Mansi Desai to the team at The Daily Tiffin. I will let Mansi introduce herself:

I'm a fun-loving, highly-social person who loves to try and conquer challenges in life. Being a Gemini, I have the "twin-tendencies", so one day you may see me writing poetry and trying some art, while another day you may find me doing bungee-jumping or para-gliding! But thanks to a sane husband, my family, friends, and a little bit of common-sense, I have learned to balance my life. I've loved cooking since I was a kid helping my mom in the kitchen, but over time, it has grown into a passion that I nurture and enjoy catering to! I love experimenting with foods and flavors, enjoy entertaining friends, and since past few years, I've also developed a fitness-streak that makes me find ways to make food healthier. You can find my recipes and articles on my blog called Fun and Food. Besides cooking, I also enjoy travelling, adventure sports, reading, writing and singing.

I hope you will all join me in welcoming Mansi to the team!

It's Getting Tasty Here!

Monday, April 14, 2008

Posted by Meeta K. Wolff

We've got some fabulous news to share with you. Allow us to introduce our newest Daily Tiffin member - Suganya of Tasty Palettes. For those who know Sug from her blog will know that she is a health conscience person, striving to get her family to eat healthy. Sug is a vegetarian, who recently started delving into the Vegan lifestyle. Sug is witty, flexible, talented and never too scared to experiment - all the right ingredients to make it on our team ;-)

Sug will be brining articles focusing on a vegetarian/vegan way of life. She will be telling us how she started to explore veganism for herself and her family and also share a few recipes. We hope to add to the quality of the blog with Sug's input. She will help those of us who are interested in veganism, by showing us how to start step by step and for those of us who would just like to include more vegetarian meals into their diets, Sug will give us a few great ideas, tips and recipes.

Here is a bit more about the stunning Sug, in her own words:

I am a fun-loving, affable & broad minded individual of Indian origin, living in the US. I started cooking at a very early age and have a strong affinity for tasty and healthy food. I write a blog called Tasty Palettes, where I express myself through food & flavour that is not limited by cuisine.

I believe in leading a healthy lifestyle. Naturally this consciousness extends into my day-to-day activities, food recipes and choice of ingredients as well. I constantly strive to make food healthy, by making sensible choices while cooking or baking. I also try to make healthy food interesting and appealing for everyone, using contemporary presentation / styling techniques and photography.

Being a vegetarian all my life, I often find myself in a position where I need to be very flexible and adaptive. So, one can find me experimenting on proven recipes (Indian or not) with locally available or organic ingredients. I have recently started exploring veganism not only as a means of extending my beliefs in a healthy lifestyle, but also my beliefs as an animal lover and an environmentalist.

My other interests include food styling, travel & photography. I also love to read a lot, watch movies and drink a good cup of coffee.

Please help me welcome Sug to the Daily Tiffin. You can catch her first post this Wednesday, 16th April.

Introducing Ann of Redacted Recipes

Posted by Meeta K. Wolff

We have a few new members on the Daily Tiffin. Today I am introducing to you a lovely person and my Daring Baker colleague, Ann.

I am so glad Ann contacted me and as we discussed her ideas I was certain they were perfect for the blog. Ann is a lively and full of energy type of person and you'll be loving her articles.

The best thing for me to do is allow Ann to introduce herself.

Though technically born long enough ago to be counted as part of the Baby Boomer generation I consider myself a First Generation Punk. I have three amazing children, one ex-husband, two cats and a lovely partner named Jack. I live in New York and make my living as a senior software consultant. An ongoing constant interest has been a love of reading and writing, but I think I am happiest when I am working with my hands-- which would explain why I have combined cooking and writing into my blog, Redacted Recipes. I am also co-administrator of The Mini
Pie Revolution Headquarters
.

Hope you'll help me welcome Ann to the team.

Becoming Whole with Meg

Monday, February 11, 2008

Posted by Meeta K. Wolff

A few weeks ago I got a mail from Meg Wolff asking me if she could join the Daily Tiffin Team. I am always when readers contact me to contribute or even become regular co-admins on the Daily Tiffin.

As I checked Meg's blog Becoming Whole I learned her entire story. Meg is a strong fighter and is proof of how healthy nutritious food can change someone's life. I won't say more because I would like Meg to introduce herself:

I’m a two-time cancer survivor (bone and then breast) who is committed to helping people understand the extremely important connection between diet and health. After going through all conventional medical treatment, doctors told me to make my peace with God. Instead, I dramatically improved my diet … and only then did my health start improving dramatically. I’m in excellent health nine years later … and consider myself living proof of this link.

Meg joins us as part of a growing Daily Tiffin team. Maybe you had a chance to read her very first post - What Does Your Valentine Really Want?. Hope you will help me welcome her!

Introducing Manisha!

Posted by Meeta K. Wolff

So, finally I get to introduce to you the last person to join our team. Over the last few months we got a few new members to join us on the team and we've been slowly introducing you to them. Today we have the pleasure to introduce you to the final one in our current newbie group.

Manisha! We all know her from her fantastic blog Indian Food Rocks and her creative photographs. But the best thing would be to let Manisha describe Manisha!

Manisha is an Internet Strategist who believes in the benefits of slowing down, which is, in essence, anti-thesis to the world of instant gratification that we currently live in. Her food blog, Indian Food Rocks, is about her personal journey through life, spiced by Indian food and anecdotes. Apart from food and being online all the time, her obsessions include gazing at the Rockies, hiking and biking whenever she can, photography, knitting and crocheting, and figuring out the next change she can implement in her life-style to help save the Earth. Manisha is currently grappling with the challenges that go hand in hand with raising a moderately gifted child.

Check out Manisha's first post due out soon!

Magical December

Monday, December 03, 2007

Posted by Meeta K. Wolff

Isn't December simply a magical month?

Candles, sparkling lights, smell of baking and spices, presents, family, food and so much more! We love the month and are counting down to Christmas just like you.

The whole Daily Tiffin team is so excited that we decided to share our joy and Christmas cheer with you.

All throughout December we'll be writing articles focusing on Christmas. As a matter of fact those regular readers might already have noticed we've started to spread the joy of Christmas and given you a few decoration ideas, we've also helped you tackle those Winter blues.

But there's more ... we'll be helping you with gifts, decorations and much more throughout December. So hope you will join us on the Daily Tiffin as we spread the Christmas spirit with a few great articles.

There's a little more going on behind the scenes here. We've got a few new members and contributors who will be joining us in the next few months. Last week we introduced you to our rooster and today I would like you to welcome two wonderful ladies.

Vicky Zhou will be joining us as a regular contributor. I am sure you ladies and many gents will love her. See Vicky is a dating expert, but I'll let her tell you a bit more about herself.

A bit about myself.. let's see. I'm half-Japanese, and was born in Tokyo. I lived in China for 5 years, and then in Brazil for 1, and since then, I have lived in the United States. My father was in the military, so generally we moved to where he had to work. As a result, I know a fair share of languages - Japanese, Chinese, some Spanish, and English of course.

I graduated with a BS from NYU, and a Masters degree in Journalism from UCLA. Since then, I have been spending my time doing freelance writing, and personal projects. I am currently occupied with writing my first book, and starting my own dating advice site at www.GotACrush.com.

Stay tuned for Vicky's first article this week. Pssssst! This one's going to be for all the men out there - ssshhhh!

The next lady probably needs no introduction at all. Lydia Walshin has that Perfect Pantry I am sure everyone wants. She is also the great mind behind Drop In & Decorate a great charity event.

Here is a bit more about Lydia:

I write the lively blog The Perfect Pantry and am a professional food writer. I am a contributing editor of Rhode Island Monthly magazine, where I write a monthly column called Local Flavor. Author of one cookbook -- South End Cooks: Recipes from a Boston Neighborhood -- I currently teach cooking classes at Rhode Island School of Design, a world-famous art college in Providence, Rhode Island (because artists make great cooks!), and also teach classes for adults and children in my log house kitchen. A long-time hunger relief activist, I am the founder of Drop In & Decorate Cookies for Donation, and a co-founder of Will Paint For Food, which works to help end hunger through education, outreach and food distribution. Oh -- and I am a grandmother of 4!

Lydia will start as a new Co-Admin in January, on her birthday, January 16th!

We do have one more person that we are really excited about but we would like to clear up the last few details before we introduce you to her. So, watch this space for more news!

The Rooster in the Hen Pen!

Hehehe!

We have news for you all ... we have a new member on our team and we are rather excited about this. Why? Well this member will be bringing on new wind to the Daily Tiffin and offering a different point of view to many topics, ideas, and themes. Ladies, please help me to welcome our first man on the Daily Tiffin team!

Dharm lives in Malaysia, loves to cook and bake, is a pretty nice guy and has a great sense of humor. Wait, wait - before you all send us your stats and dating requests there is a hitch. Dharm is happily married to a lovely lady and has two adorable kids.

Here is Dharm in his own words:

I'm from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and a Mechanical Engineer by profession. I've always had a passion for food, both eating and cooking. When I was younger, I used to help my Mom with the the baking while I really only started cooking once I went to University in Australia. I soon found that cooking was a great way to meet women! Now happily married and blessed with two lovely children, my cooking and baking revolves around the family. I have always loved to write and have a great interest in photography as well. So what better way to combine my love of food, writing, photography and cooking for my family than to maintain a blog at Dad ~ Baker & Chef

Dharm will be writing many great articles, so hope you tune in once a month to check out news, life and other information from a man's point of view.

His first article will be on November 30th - you'll be surprised at what this guy can do!

We've got a few other surprises coming your way too so keep an eye on this space!

If you are a regular reader of the Daily Tiffin you might have noticed this article on Friday. If you have a very sharp eye you might have also noticed a new name at the end of the article. Helene from the awesome blog Tartlette has graciously accepted to join us here at the Daily Tiffin. Just as sweet as her blog is Helene herself and she has many facets to her amazing personality. I'll let her tell you a little bit about herself in her own words:

"I was born and raised in France 32 years ago, and moved to the US 10 years to complete a Master's in American History. I met my husband and life changed completely. I have a very strange resume as I am a pastry chef half the week and a certified personal trainer the other half. I befriended the most amazing chef at the French restaurant I was working for and when he retired I quit to follow him. I love fitness and health and got certified in various areas: nutrition, Pilates, Aerobics, ... I think I have found the way to balance the best of both world and I am a happy fish in bright waters!"

It does not end there though. I have the biggest joy in introducing you our next new Team Member. Sabrina from the fantastic YumSugar will be reporting about the latest food trends, discussing important food related topics and sharing some yummilicious recipes with all of us. Sabrina, is energetic and full of life.

"I am the editor of YumSugar.com and enjoy keeping my readers up to date on the latest food trends, news and more. I pride myself on the fact that I has traveled and eaten meals in more than 15 countries. After graduating UC Santa Cruz with a degree in Fine Art/Photography and Computer Science, I began a daily food blog called Pocketpig.com featuring drawings and discussions of every meal I ate. During this time, I lived in Cambridge, England and learned to appreciate the finer points of British cuisine. I also once created a 3ft x 4ft self portrait made entirely out of cake!"

Lookout for Sabrina's yummy posts every other Wednesday.

We've also been trying to optimize our blog for you. On the sidebar you might have noticed a few new sections. These sections aim to keep you informed on interesting topics related to healthy, happy and well balanced family life. The "Blog Hopping" section links you to interesting article we found during our visits to other blogs. If you see something that you think might be of interest for this section let us know. Send us an email and we'll add the link to the section.

Hope you all have a great start to your week!

Tiffin Tuesday: Of Easter Egg Artwork and Egg Rolls

Tuesday, April 10, 2007

Posted by Meeta K. Wolff

I am sure I do not need to tell any of you mummies out there at how much pride I was filled with when Soeren presented me with these eggs on Easter Sunday. He had made these creations at his KIGA with his group. Lovely delicate artwork on each egg blown out egg from a 4 year old. Yes, I just had to share this with you so you can share my joy and pride with me too.

Today's Tiffin idea is put together quickly as I use mostly leftovers.
Prep Time: 7 minutes
Fresh strawberries and kiwis cut up in bite sized pieces. Rich in vitamin C, E and fiber. Not to mention their potent antioxidant protection. My mum constantly sends me packets of cashews, almonds and raisins from Dubai as she knows how much we enjoy them. Here I have made a little dried fruit and nut mix with a few cashews, almonds, raisins, hazelnuts and dried cherries. My mother calls this "brain food."
The cake is a almond and vanilla cream sponge cake, made very easily using pre-prepared sponge bases and whipping up a pastry cream of your choice. Sprinkle with roasted almonds to top it off. Finally two slices of a wonderful fluffy egg roll I made for our Easter Brunch. The roll is filled with wasabi flavored cream cheese and smoked salmon. You will find the recipe here.

Healthy Resources: Nuts

Latest News:
As of now Tiffin Tuesday is going to be a regular weekly session here at the Dailly Tiffin. Every week we will present you with a variety of different lunch box ideas. For this purpose we have invited two lovely ladies to join us on our team.
Biggie has joined us as a co-admin and will be bringing you exciting and useful tips on lunches she packs for herself and her two-and-a-half year old son. On April 23rd catch her first article right here on the Daily Tiffin.

A bit more about Biggie in her own words:

I've been living in San Francisco since 1999 (after living in Japan for nine+ years), my son is two and a half, and I'm now a stay-at-home mom since the arrival of my son (after a career in high-tech PR both in Japan and San Francisco).
Biggie's blog: Lunch In A Box

On the other Tuesdays you will be getting more lunches boxes, bentos and packed lunch ideas from a new regular contributor to the Daily Tiffin. Joker Girl who packs the most healthy nutritious vegetarian bentos will be sharing a few of her secrets with us. Next week she will be premiering with a detailed look into a Bento Box.

JG says about herself:
I'm a 24- year old software engineer from Austria who lives in Sweden and likes to play with her food. International cuisine and photography are probably the most feminine of my hobbies, which combine well in making cute lunchboxes!

Makes you wonder what her non-feminine hobbies are LOL!
JG's bento community blog: Bento Lunches

We are really glad to have these brilliant new additions to the Daily Tiffin.

Reminder!
Our first event on the Daily Tiffin this month is Show Us Your Lunchbox. Hope you will join us and allow us to peak into your lunch. Deadline April 20th.

Happy Birthday Daily Tiffin!

It's true! The Daily Tiffin is 1 year old today. It all started with this post. Incredible how time flies. Today the Daily Tiffin is more than a lunch box blog. It has become a place where family related topics are discussed with a team of wonderful ladies.

I am so glad to have found these super women because not only do they enrich the blog with their informative posts but I have also found new friends in them.

All of us hope that we are able to provide you, our readers, with valuable and helpful tips, tricks and ideas. We share our experiences with you, inform you of interesting subjects that we have learned and we really hope that you are able to benefit from the articles on the Daily Tiffin.

We look forward to another year filled with interesting and exciting happenings here. For example, how do you like the new look? As we decided to finally use the advantages of the new Blogger layout, I could not help but choose this template. We are planning on a complete new design for the Daily Tiffin in the near future though. Look out for that!

Another piece of news is the start of events here. We had you vote for this and you all decided that you wanted events on the Daily Tiffin. So, look forward to that soon.

There is one thing we would like to request from you. We spend a lot of time researching and writing some of the posts you read here. However, currently we are really not sure of what you think. Are you enjoying these posts? We'd like you to interact with us, tell us your thoughts and opinions. Currently we are left a bit in the dark as to what you think. Whatever is on your mind just say it! It helps us to channel our write-ups to fit your needs and likings.

Here's to another year!

Our Team Grows

Last week we were so happy to introduce to you the lovely Gillian to our team.

This week I have more great news. Our newest team member is someone that I am sure you will be excited to hear more about. She is the lovely Susi from FitSugar.

I'll let Susi describe herself in her own words:

I am the editor of the website FitSugar that I write with Denise Stirk and Jenny Sugar. After teaching Pilates in the San Francisco Bay Area for 7 years, I decided it was time to write about fitness and health in hopes of changing the world or at least reaching a broader audience. My two little girls keep me quite active and I love to run (I just started recently and I am hooked), practice yoga, and bake sweet treats. I am more of a baker than a cook.

Susi will be reporting every other Friday and showing you some of the best ways to stay fit. Pilates, yoga and a healthy active lifestyle will be what to expect from Susi. So, if you have always wanted to learn more about pilates or yoga and actually finally start doing something for your body and soul tune in on every second Friday. Susi's first post will be on February 2.

If that is not enough I have just one more - a new contributor to the Daily Tiffin.

Stephanie of Mix It Up Meals will be contributing every now and again and discussing healthy meals, lunch boxes and how to get families to eat healthier.

I introduce to you Staphanie.

I’m Stephanie, and wear the following hats…

Business Owner
Along with my business partner I own a meal preparation facility called Mix It Up Meals It grew out of a love of cooking together for the freezer and finding that other moms were also struggling with how to get a tasty nutritious meal on the table.

Mom
This is one of my favorite hats to wear! Mom to three fabulous kiddos. Q is 8 and he is in 2nd grade. C is 7 and she is in 1st grade. And little T is 3 ½ and in preschool two days a week.

Wife
To my great husband of ten years. We met at the Iowa State Fair. His family was in the food/concession business and we spent many of our dating days making funnel cakes and corn dogs.

And then there is just me. I love to cook and love to eat. I grew up cooking, and have great memories of cooking with my grandma and my mom. And my dad was a great campfire cook. Three other hobbies that I love to do but feel like I don’t have enough time to devote to any of them: quilting, scrap booking and reading. Life is just too full right now with the three kids and the business.

Hope you all will welcome our newest members to the Daily Tiffin with warm hearts. Look forward to some great and exciting articles to come your way.
