Exciting & fun. The good thing is that one can pick and choose whatever seems best from different pots! Love your mini melting pots too. I'm multicultural too, having broken religious barriers & hearts to find my own path, and often find myself grappling to find answers for the kids. But conflict is good in some ways; it makes the mind question, choose & evolve! And then of course, aah, food is the greatest unifier! I always like to say I'm a cultural mutt which is such a gift in many ways but also such a curse in others, not the least of which is feeling like I never fit in anywhere, but then I have some truly wonderful friends both multicultural and of single cultures, so it's probably more about creating your own space than anything else. And food is key in that way. I completely identify with what you said here having grwon up in many different cultures and have always considered myself a third culture kid; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Culture_Kids
It wasnt always easy fitting in but boy did i get to experience some awesome stuff, learning alot about differences, tolerance, and different sides to a story.

And my Lebanese side totally agrees with you on passing of identity, culture and history via cuisine. Whenever I travel i always look to food as a way of getting to know the culture better.

Great post!bethany (dirtyKitchenSecrets)http://www.dirtykitchensecrets.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22910471.post-71117862046586018362009-09-10T12:03:15.187+02:002009-09-10T12:03:15.187+02:00Just awesome Jamie. I think the contributors here ...Just awesome Jamie. I think the contributors here at the DT alone are so multicultural. As for me this is a post that could be written out of my own diary. I personally find the benefits of a multicultural family/life is that you becoem so tolerant towards many social issues and you learn patience and respect. I see the same with my son who goes to an International School - he is growing up to respect and protect other people's beliefs, tradition and thoughts.

Wonderful post and WELCOME TO THAT DT!Meeta K. Long time since I was at the DT.
"multi cultural melting pots". :) I think it is wonderful because there is an awareness and respect for other cultures and traditions instilled in childhood.
